Basic Dog Training

Walking On A Leash

Use the following methods to train your dog to walk on a leash:
  1. Work with dog in open area.
  2. Place your dog on his leash
  3. Begin walking with your dog
When your dog begin pulling in a particular direction give your dog's leash a little tug and begin walking in the opposite direction of where he is pulling you

Learn your dog Sit-Stay-Come Command

Treat your dog while you standing in front of your dog, extend your hand with a flat palm tel your dog to "stay". Slowly move a step away from your dog and wait a moment, come back to your dog and say "good stay.  Release"Continue this repetition until you can move several steps from your dog while he stays.

Doing sit-stay-come command is excellent way to training obedience with your dog.

Stop and start Command

While walking with dog you'll probably need to stop and start. When you need to stop for any reason stop your dog with tug on his leash and say "wait".  Give your dog "sit command".
When it is ok for him resume walking say "Le's go" and pull his leash forward while you walk.

Do Stop and start Command every time while you walking.
